The first of these is to do with the hardware. Unlike other consoles, the Switch’s biggest premise is the fact that it’s a handheld and home console hybrid. Players can choose to take it on the go or put it on the big screen. Because of this gimmick, the console is vastly underpowered compared to other consoles. The Xbox One and PS4 are both much superior to the Switch in terms of capabilities. And let’s not even mention the Xbox Series X/S or PS5! As such, a potential Genshin Impact Nintendo Switch might not fare too well on the console. Even the original PS4 version didn’t run great at launch.
Other individuals speculated that the microtransaction basis of the game could cause a delay. However, this idea seems unlikely, as there are plenty of other Switch titles with microtransactions. The fact that it’s been almost two years since the original game came out doesn’t bode well for a Genshin Impact Nintendo Switch port. It could be that miHoYo decided to ignore the Switch entirely and move on to the next Nintendo console.
It would truly be a shame if a Genshin Impact Nintendo Switch port never came. After all, the Switch console has become the home for plenty of other interesting RPGs. Take Live a Live, for example. Square released the Japan-exclusive title in 1994, and it finally got a worldwide release on Switch in July 2022. Additionally, the Octopath Traveler first came out on the Switch in 2018 before being released elsewhere in the years that followed. If that wasn’t enough, Atlus released Shin Megami Tensei V only on Switch in 2021, while Capcom followed suit with Monster Hunter Rise.
Clearly, there’s a big market for strange RPGs on the Switch, so a Genshin Impact Nintendo Switch port would be a perfect addition. However, there’s another reason why it might be delayed. When miHoYo first released the game, many fans noted the similarities with Breath of the Wild from The Legend of Zelda franchise. Indeed, the combat system and overall look of the world are quite similar to Hyrule. Perhaps Nintendo has delayed the title until they release the BOTW sequel, Tears of the Kingdom.
If that’s so, then it would be a real shame. The Nintendo Switch seems like the perfect home for Genshin Impact, and it’s currently sorely missing on the console. We hope that MiHoYo can sort out whatever problems they’re currently having and release the game on Switch. It’s a fun title that more people should be able to enjoy!
