Danny Boyle is set to adapt The Matrix. And it’s not just any adaptation we’re talking about here. The director of 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, and 127 Hours is going to do a dance adaptation. Yes, you read that right. Dance. And the idea, despite what others might think, is the most brilliant idea since it was announced that Keanu Reeves is going to return for a sequel to Constantine.

But The Matrix already had dancing, you shout! No, it had a rave scene that is equal parts entertaining and “I mean, maybe they’re bored and have nothing better to do in their empty existence?” Either way, The Matrix getting a dance adaptation next October at Factory International, a new arts venue in Manchester, U.K., is a recipe for greatness. And we’ve got the proof in video form.

I’ve never watched a single episode of Strictly Come Dancing. But you best believe that after watching the following clip, I’m absolutely down for more. You mean that Neo and Trinity (not these two people because they look nothing like our baes) can wear leather/pleather, tacky 90’s shades, while wearing things that billow when they walk…AND THEY CAN DANCE IN IT? Sign me up. Take my money. Now.

Directed by Brad Martin and starring David Leitch, this scene was from Confessions of An Action Star. According to the synopsis on IMDb: “In the spring of 1986, no one had heard of Frank Sledge. One year later, Bloodfight 2 was #1 at the box office… And a star was born.” But ignore that. Just watch the video below and we’ll promise that by the end of it, you’ll want to buy tickets to The Matrix dance adaptation.

Is the addition of “Matrix-style dance” in this video click-bait? Yes, it is. Do I still see the potential for it as further proof that a dance adaptation of The Matrix is a good idea? Look, he’s got all the essentials: leather, black clothes, and dance fighting. What more do you need? Now imagine Neo and Trinity pulling some of these off on stage while falling in love. I. WOULD. PAY. GOOD. MONEY.

Personally, and after watching this video, there’s no way that The Matrix dance adaptation would be complete without a cyr wheel and a trampoline. Imagine Morpheus showing Neo the way of the cyr wheel as a way of battling the evil cyber-intelligence that has trapped humanity. And then imagine Neo running from the Agents on the trampolines? I like it. Picasso.

This video actually takes you through Neo’s decision to take the red or blue pill before they break out into a dance routine. Include the trademark glasses, black clothes, and the trademark green Matrix text. Thanks to James Dean choreography, this is the final confirmation that The Matrix dance adaptation isn’t just a crazy idea. It’s a brilliant one.
